Can someone explain to me how you use professional hair colors %26amp; developers, and explain what the ';volumes'; mean and which volume you use.

When using professional products, follow the manufacturers instructions. Best would be to leave this to the professionals, but if you must do it on your own, then here we go...
Developers 10, 20, 30 %26amp; 40 volume are the most common. Each brand recommends it slightly different but a rule of thumb would be,
10 volume is for depositing color
20 volume is for depositing color, covering grey resistant hair, and lifting or lightening color 1-2 levels.
30 volume is for lightening 2-3 levels
40 volume is for lightening 3-4 levels.
CHECK THE MANUFACTURER INFORMATION, this info may vary with the product.
Level- is the lightness or darkness of a hair color

Professional Hair color.....Please read?
I went to Sally's beauty supply a couple of weeks ago and got some Clairol Hair Color cream and the 20 volume cream developer. Well the box the hair color came in got thrown away, and I was wondering about how long do I leave it in my hair??

Hair Dye Problem- Any Professional Hair Color Specialists Out there?
I have been dying my hair for over 15 years now, never had a problem in fact all my hair stylists have always commented on what a flawless job i did!!!! (*pats self on the back*) but lately for some reason no matter how i begin, whether it be to dye the roots first, or the ends first regardless of the fact that i applied a neutral protein filler before starting I end up with the roots all bright and the bottom with the yummy color i wanted all over to begin with!!!!!!! anyone have any solutions to this????? Should I re-apply another box?I know, I know that's bad!!!
BTW: I have light auburn-red hair and dyed it a black cherry (deep burgundy) My hair is not very easy to hold a color for long!!!Hair Dye Problem- Any Professional Hair Color Specialists Out there?
I AGREE WITH THE FIRST ANSWER, BUT IF YOU DO GO TO THE SALON PLEEAASSE TELL THE STYLIST WHAT YOU HAVE PUT IN YOUR HAIR (TYPE OF COLOR %26amp; BRAND). IF YOU DON'T IT COULD BE A BIGGER DISASTER. LETTING THE STYLIST KNOW WHAT KIND OF COLOR YOU HAVE BEEN USING WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR HER TO DETERMINE WHAT TO DO FOR YOUR HAIR. Noooooooooo, please don't do anything else! That's why your stylist has always complimented you on your haircolor. We know that sooner or later that you ';at home colorist'; will botch the job up and need major color correction! Without a proper consultation its impossible to give you professional advice. Go see your stylist so that he/she can correct the ';hot roots'; that you seem to have. TAKE YOUR CHECKBOOK!

Usually you have to get your license in cosmetology, that's the way the state board will certify you to work on people, but once you have your license you can specialize in color only by taking advanced learning courses. You should check the laws in your state, google your STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY, ESTHETICS AND BARBERING.

I have dark brown hair and would like a professional hair color that will NOT DARKEN w/o brasiness?
I need a single process professional hair color that will not darken my dark brown hair, but just cover the grays and SLIGHTLY LIGHTEN without brasiness, reds or oranges

Loving care - contains no peroxide so it will not lighten or make your hair brassy. Avoid colors with red or auburn tones and stick with a medium to dark blonde shade. Extremely difficult... yourself? or professional hair place? or are you getting a dye thats professional? first time? anyways I have had a ton of out of the box color and look all golden and brassy.. really hard to get rid of.. and professional hair salon I got red, orange.. when I wanted my natural hair color which isn't red or orange.. do cooler or warmer tones.. not ashy.. bad.. or golden.. Good luck..skin allergy

ok a couple of years ago i used miss clairol color called burgandy , purchased from a beauty supply store and i want to say the color number was 70r, now all i see is plum brown in 70r.
